If you enjoy a peaceful tranquil walk with mature trees then this garden is for you. There is a stunning collection of trees and flowering shrubs including rhododendron and azalea. There are clearly marked pathways including one down to the lochside. A suggested donation of £3 is asked for via an honesty box. It is full of colour in spring and there are some fascinating trees.

The pretty fishing village of Ullapool sits on the shores of Loch Broom, Ullapool is a short drive away. The village is the gateway to the Hebrides and has a lovely promenade along shore street. It boasts many eateries from fine dining to fish and chips, two delis, takeaways and cafes and bistros. The village has a museum, independent art school-An Talla Solais that host exhibitions and work shops throughout the year. The village has a chemist, hardware and supermarket and fuel station. If you feel energetic you can hire a push bike or hire a set of clubs at Ullapool’s seven-hole golf course.

Lael Forest Gardens

5.3 miles 7-minute Drive

The Lael Forest Garden is right off the main road near Ullapool and contains over 200 different trees with sign postings to identify the tree and origin. Some of the trees are really quite massive and from all over the world planted here. At the north car park there is a viewing spot for a slightly hidden waterfall. There are 2 car parks and both are free. The walk does not have a charge and is well worth a short break in the forest. There is a wooden summer house which children love to run to and explore or to have a quiet moment to one’s self

Owned by The National Trust of Scotland, Corrieshalloch Gorge has a spectacular waterfall-Falls of Measach Follow the steep short walk and cross the Victorian suspension bridge walk to the viewing platform and marvel at the Falls of Measach plummeting into one of the most spectacular gorges in Britain.
